Who can take part?

Tribloom events are created for schoolchildren within the grade categories announced for each event. Participation is arranged with the host school, and the eligible grades will be clearly stated before team entries open.

Question 2

How many children are in a team?

Accepted Answer

Every Tribloom team consists of four children and has its own team name. One parent or guardian begins the team-entry process as the lead parent.

Question 3

Can a team include children of different genders?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Tribloom welcomes mixed-gender teams. Any event-specific grade-grouping requirements will be shared before team entries open.

Question 4

Does every child need to complete all three disciplines?

Accepted Answer

Every child is encouraged to experience the swim, cycle and run, but Tribloom is designed to work as a team challenge. If a child is not comfortable completing one discipline, another teammate may be permitted to complete an additional leg or round so the team completes the full challenge together. Any adjustment must be shared with Tribloom in advance and is subject to safety review and operational approval. Every child should still take a meaningful part in the event, and all four teammates come together for the shared finish. Please tell us about any required adjustment during the individual parent-registration stage rather than waiting until event day.

Does my child need to be an experienced athlete?

Not at all! Tribloom welcomes children with different levels of sporting confidence. The focus is on preparing, participating, supporting teammates and completing something together—not arriving as an experienced triathlete.

What are the distances?

Distances are short and age-appropriate, set for each grade category, with a swim, a cycle and a run for every team. The full breakdown by grade is on the Relay Format & Distances page. See Relay Format & Distances

Question 7

What happens if one team member can no longer participate?

Accepted Answer

Contact Tribloom as soon as possible. A replacement may be considered depending on the stage of registration and the event’s requirements. A replacement child cannot participate until their own parent or legal guardian has completed the required private registration, consent and safety information. Please do not swap team members informally or arrive with an unregistered replacement.

How does registration work?

One lead parent enters the four-child team. Once the team is selected, each child’s own parent or legal guardian completes a private registration—consent, emergency contacts, relevant health or support information and readiness—followed by the secure payment. The team is confirmed only after all four registrations, safety checks and payments are complete. See the full Registration Process

How much does it cost?

The participation fee will be confirmed for each school event and clearly communicated in the official event information before registration and payment.

Question 10

When is our team’s place confirmed?

Accepted Answer

Submitting the initial team entry does not confirm a place. A team is confirmed only after it has been selected and all four parents or legal guardians have completed their child’s registration, all required safety follow-ups have been cleared and all four payments have been verified. Confirmation will be sent to the registered families by email.

When and how will event details be shared?

Start or wave timings and important event updates are emailed to the addresses supplied by each child’s parent or legal guardian during registration. Please make sure those addresses are entered correctly and let Tribloom know if any contact details change before the event.

What swimming ability is required?

Accepted Answer

Children intending to complete the swim should practise the published distance and become comfortable in the water before event day. Each parent or legal guardian must declare their child’s swimming confidence, readiness and support needs during individual registration. If a child is not comfortable completing the swim, the family should tell Tribloom in advance so that an appropriate team adjustment or approved support arrangement can be considered.

Question 13

Can children use any swimming stroke?

Accepted Answer

Children may use any safe swimming stroke except backstroke. Backstroke is not permitted because swimming on the back can be mistaken by the swim-safety team as a sign that a participant may need assistance. It also makes it more difficult for the swimmer to see the direction in which they are moving. All children must follow the pool briefing and the instructions given by the lifeguards and swim-safety team. If a child needs help at any point, they should stop, alert the nearest member of the swim-safety team and follow their instructions.

Question 14

Can children use a life jacket or swimming board?

Yes. A child who requires swimming support may use approved safety equipment such as a correctly fitted life jacket or an appropriate swimming board, subject to Tribloom’s advance safety review. The child’s parent or legal guardian must declare the support requirement during individual registration. The family is responsible for arranging and bringing the agreed, correctly sized equipment to the event. The swim-safety team will inspect the equipment before it is used. Event staff will be present at the pool to guide, supervise and support children using approved equipment. Please do not bring or use unapproved flotation equipment. Any required swimming support must be discussed with Tribloom before event day.

Can teammates share a bicycle?

Yes—teammates can share a bicycle. Whether sharing works well for a particular event may depend on the event layout, transition plan and differences in the children’s heights, and the event guide will confirm the arrangement for each event. Any shared bicycle must fit every intended rider safely, and each child using it should have practised on it before event day.

Is a helmet compulsory?

Yes. Every child who cycles must wear a correctly fitted cycling helmet. Bicycles and helmets may be inspected before participation. Equipment that is damaged, unsuitable or cannot be used safely will not be permitted on the course.

What kind of bicycle can my child use?

Accepted Answer

Please bring a safe, working bicycle that is suitable for the child and the event surface. Before event day, check: Brakes; Tyres and tyre pressure; Chain; Steering; Pedals; Seat height; Overall bicycle condition Any event-specific bicycle restrictions will be communicated to registered families.

Question 19

What is a wave?

Accepted Answer

A wave is a group of teams that begins the triathlon within the same scheduled time window. Teams are organised into waves based on their grade category and the event’s capacity. A typical swimming wave may include approximately five or six teams of four. Starting teams in smaller groups helps keep the pool, preparation areas and courses organised, supported and safe. The next wave begins when the event team is ready to welcome it.

How does the event day unfold?

Teams arrive and check in, rack their bikes and attend a briefing, then complete the swim, cycle and run in scheduled waves before coming together for a shared finish and celebration. See the Event Day guide

Question 21

Are families and spectators encouraged to attend?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Encouragement from family and friends can make the experience even more memorable for children, and a lively finish-line atmosphere is part of what makes Tribloom special. Spectators must remain within the areas designated by Tribloom and the host school and follow all entry, safeguarding and course-safety instructions. Access and viewing arrangements will be confirmed in the event guide.

Will drinking water be available?

Hydration support will form part of the event plan. Participants should also bring a clearly labelled water bottle and follow the hydration guidance shared for their event.

What should participants bring?

Accepted Answer

Swimwear and a towel, a safe bicycle and a correctly fitted helmet, comfortable sports clothing and closed sports shoes, a clearly labelled water bottle, a change of clothes and any medication declared during registration. What safety and medical support will be available?

Every event includes supervised swim areas and qualified lifeguards, cycling-helmet requirements and bicycle checks, controlled and marshalled courses, hydration and on-site medical support, planned with the host school for the venue and age groups. See our full Safety standards

Question 25

What if my child has a medical condition, special needs or an additional support requirement?

Relevant medical, accessibility and support information must be provided by the child’s parent or legal guardian through the private individual-registration process. Tribloom may contact the family privately to understand the child’s needs and agree appropriate arrangements before participation is confirmed.

Question 26

How are photography preferences handled?

Accepted Answer

Each parent or legal guardian can provide the required photography preference for their child during individual registration. Tribloom and the host school will follow the approved event process for identifying and respecting children whose photographs or videos should not be used.
